Though Art Basel is in radiant Miami Beach, it has yet to see the glow illuminating from the artwork of Robert D. Harris and Carly Ivan Garcia. Both SF artists have been personally invited to participate in Art Basel 2009- THEE art extravaganza that showcases domestic and international artists that are actively challenging traditional art in a constructive and progressive way. Kudos to both Harris and Garcia for holding it down for the SF Bay Area!
Robert D. Harris
Harris derives inspiration from spiritual energy, nature, traditional art, music and most significantly, humanity. He takes what lies beneath the human façade and creates a non-linear, authentic reality. This reality taps into raw emotions inherent in all human beings, though often hidden behind societal-influenced masks. Removing the mask and exposing truth is more than art, it is a movement.
“Every form of artistic expression is a direct representation of human existence. The raw emotion, thought processes, and consequences endured by ordinary people profoundly connects the community. The art movement not only exposes this connection, it embraces it; it encourages self-examination in a selfless context,” said Harris.
Harris’ work has progressed into distinguished and highly recognizable pieces that are displayed in public and private collections worldwide. Additionally, he serves as a visual DJ though live art performances at special events including, but not limited to: wine tasting parties, celebrity concerts, art store openings, non-profit fundraisers, night club promotions, and business gatherings.

Carly Ivan Garcia
Carly Ivan Garcia has consistently challenged the boundaries of fine art as we know it. With his eccentric style illuminations in an abstract form of human expression is created on canvas utilizing a wide range of mixed media. Making a scene throughout the Bay Area, he has participated in a number of group shows and often been featured artist.
Sensational oil and mixed media paintings take center stage in the events and galleries shown throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. His work has been in the media spotlight and can be seen in the feature film Touching Home, starring Ed Harris.
Carly’s paintings ultimately construct a relational landscape of people and ideas toward modernist conception. His images and use of a visually refined color palette elevates the work beyond the surface level to reveal that which lies beneath.
